Stamp Duty

Now called 'Stamp Duty Land Tax', this is payable by the Buyer to the Government and is calculated by reference to the value of the property.

A report carried out by a qualified person as to the physical condition of the property.

Transfer Deed

The Land Registry form which changes the ownership from seller to buyer.

Unregistered Land

Land which is not registered with the Land Registry. Increasingly rare since all land has to be registered when it changes hands. If your land is not registered then your deeds are the only proof you own it and must be kept in a safe place.
